Treat the breeze as part of the round. Check the wind again before an exposed approach, and stay flexible with club selection instead of relying on distance alone. A coastal golf day also works well with time at leisure afterwards; coordinate your pickup so there is room to enjoy both.
Mission Hills Phuket Golf Resort opened in 2004 on the island's northeast coast, just ten minutes from Phuket International Airport, and holds a distinction no other Phuket course can claim: it's the only layout on the island that plays directly along the Andaman Sea. The course was designed by Jack Nicklaus — one of golf's most decorated players and course architects — through Nicklaus Design, and sits within a coastal mangrove and rubber plantation setting facing Phang Nga Bay.
True to Nicklaus's stated intent for the layout, Mission Hills was built to delight rather than punish: at around 6,800 yards, it's playable for a wide range of handicaps, with the design leaning on aesthetics and strategic bunkering rather than raw length or severity. Water still comes into play on seven holes, and an unusual shared island green connects the par-5 2nd and par-4 5th holes — golfers approach the same green from opposite directions on each hole. The par-3 4th and par-5 13th bring golfers directly to the ocean's edge, with views across Phang Nga Bay's limestone karsts that are difficult to match anywhere else in Phuket golf.
Individual golf carts are compulsory here, even though the terrain itself is relatively flat and would be an easy walk — a policy of the resort rather than a reflection of the course's difficulty.
