The playing experience
If you are interested in an early or evening round, ask for the exact available session and its quotation. Lighting arrangements, the last starting time and transport hours need to work together. Day and evening schedules can have different conditions, so the final confirmation should name the round you intend to play.
Summit Windmill Golf Club opened in 1993 in Bang Phli district, Samut Prakan, close to Suvarnabhumi Airport and about 30 to 40 minutes from downtown Bangkok. It was designed by Nick Faldo, the six-time major champion, and it plays every bit as demanding as his name would suggest — a back-tee slope rating of 146 puts it among the tougher tests in the country.
Faldo's design leans on substantial earthmoving to create elevation and mounding rare in this part of Bangkok, with elevated island-style tee boxes and water in play on nearly every hole. The long par-5 1st stretches to 624 yards with a lake running the entire left side, and the par-4 18th repeats the same water-guarded test for a dramatic finish. The par-3 12th adds an island green into the mix. The course has hosted real professional tournaments too, including an AGPA Tour event backed by Lexus International in 2000 and the Thailand Masters in 2001.
What sets Summit Windmill apart from most Bangkok courses, though, is night golf — hydraulic posts raise LED lighting after dark, letting golfers play well past sunset. It's been a popular fixture for over a decade, and paired with the club's European-castle-style clubhouse and on-site 5-star resort, it makes for one of the more complete golf experiences near the city.
