Position matters on a tree-framed hole. Choose the side of the fairway that opens the next shot, rather than aiming only for the longest drive. A relaxed warm-up and a sensible tee choice help a mixed-ability group enjoy the layout at a steady pace.

Phoenix Gold opened in 1993 as a Dennis Griffiths design set on wooded, rolling terrain in Huay Yai, a short drive south of central Pattaya. The course is laid out across three nines — Mountain, Lake, and Ocean — each with its own character: the Mountain nine climbs through jungle-clad hills with a view of a laser-carved Buddha image on a nearby rock face, the Lake nine winds around a series of small ponds, and the Ocean nine (despite the name, no water is actually in play) closes with a hole at the course's highest point, looking out over the Gulf of Thailand and Pattaya's skyline.

New ownership took over the property in 2013 and invested significantly in upgrades, including a comprehensive Ocean nine renovation beginning in 2014 under designer Pirapon Namatra. The course has hosted several professional and corporate events over the years, including the 2015 All Thailand Golf Championship, and remains a long-standing favorite among Pattaya's expat golfing community for its easy access and reasonable pricing.
