The playing experience

Part of the enjoyment is recognising the inspiration behind a hole, then deciding how to play the version in front of you. Familiar shapes still need a fresh assessment of distance, wind and pin position. Give yourself time to appreciate the design, while maintaining the pace expected by the course.

The RG City Golf Club opened in 2011 on Rungsit-Nakornnayok Road, north of Bangkok near Alpine Golf Club — designed by Ron Garl, the same architect behind Alpine itself. Where Garl built Alpine to be a genuine championship test, RG City is something else entirely: Asia's first replica golf course, built on former farmland that's been reshaped into a tribute to some of golf's most famous holes.

The front nine borrows its personality from around the world — the Church Pew bunkers of Oakmont, the water-guarded par-5 6th at Bay Hill, the island green made famous at Sawgrass's 17th, the Road Hole from St Andrews, and Royal Troon's Postage Stamp among them. The back nine then shifts to a single inspiration: Augusta National, recreated hole for hole in length and elevation, Amen Corner included.

It's a genuinely different kind of round from anything else in the Bangkok area — not built to be the hardest course in the city, but built to be one of the most memorable, with knowledgeable caddies on hand who know the story behind every hole.

Tell us your preferred tee time, handicap range and any rental requirements. For a larger group, we can discuss consecutive tee times rather than assuming everyone can play in one flight.
