Make room in the day for the drive and a proper warm-up. Changes in elevation can alter how far a shot actually plays, so use the caddie's local knowledge alongside your own distance judgement. For a multi-course holiday, this setting adds a different visual and playing rhythm to flatter layouts.

Mae Jo Golf Club opened in 2004, designed by well-known Thai golf course architect Seni Thirawat, and sits within Mae Jo University’s grounds in San Sai District, about 20 minutes north of central Chiang Mai. The course winds through the university’s orchards and fruit groves, with narrow, tree-lined fairways over Zoysia grass and water hazards and doglegs shaping much of the challenge.

The greens — a mix of Korean Velvet and Bermuda TifEagle — carry pronounced slopes that reward accurate approach play. What makes Mae Jo stand out scenically is its setting: mountain views of Doi Suthep and the surrounding peaks run throughout the round, with holes 14 and 15 singled out as particularly panoramic. A modern Lanna-style clubhouse with a restaurant, spa, and on-site lodge rounds out the property.

While no major tournaments or awards are documented for Mae Jo, it’s built a solid reputation as a well-conditioned, scenic round that’s easy to reach from the city.
