The playing experience

Make room in the day for the drive and a proper warm-up. Changes in elevation can alter how far a shot actually plays, so use the caddie's local knowledge alongside your own distance judgement. For a multi-course holiday, this setting adds a different visual and playing rhythm to flatter layouts.

Rancho Charnvee sits in the rolling farmland just outside Khao Yai National Park, near Pak Chong Junction on the Friendship Highway — one of the easier Khao Yai courses to reach from Bangkok. Designed by American architect Bob McFarland and opened in 2010, the course carries a distinctive Western ranch theme, right down to stables on the property and a clubhouse with a country-manor feel.

The layout is deliberately open: the front nine loops around a working farmhouse, while the back nine unfolds across flatter ground with the Dong Phaya Yen mountain range as a constant backdrop. McFarland gave the course wide fairways and large, receptive greens — more forgiving than most of its Khao Yai neighbors — but backed that generosity with strategic bunkering and several genuine water carries, so the course never becomes a pushover.

As a resort as well as a golf club, Rancho Charnvee is built for golfers who want to extend the trip beyond 18 holes — accommodation, dining, and other resort facilities are all on-site.
